No One is Innocent: Punk Book

Punk often seems best understood as an entirely historical term, signaling a stance or mood whose energies infused the arts of the 1970s across the board; as last year’s popular ICA London show Secret Public demonstrated, cross-genre approaches to the period are increasingly adopted. Viewing Punk thus, No One is Innocent (the title comes from the Sex Pistols’ fifth single, post Rotten and Vicious) orients its unique take on this moment around three cities in which it flourished well (more…)

Jeremy Fish ‘Ghost Of The Barnaby Coast’ Fifty24SF Opening

Jeremy Fish presents his solo exhibition at Gallery Fifty24SF of San Francisco called ‘Ghost Of The Barnaby Coast’. The new work pays homage to San Francisco’s debauturous past and what makes the city so fasincating from the Gold Rush to the Dot Com Boom. Fecal Face payed a trip to Fish’s studio and caught a close up glimps into his world of large bears and Emperor Norton. Have a look at some great photos after the jump.

Miss Van ‘Still a little Magic’ at Fifty24SF

Barcelona based character artist Miss Van launched her show at San Fransisco’s Fifty24SF Gallery. The french born miss Van has a huge following and is considered one of the best exponents of this style of work in the world, you can view this show, till 30th December, not worth missing if your in the Bay Area. The Moncler Duck by Stuart Semple

British artist Stuart Semple has  teamed up with Italian brand Moncler for an Art Basel Miami project involving the company’s mascot The Moncler Duck“The Moncler Duck has been transformed into a large fibreglass artwork measuring 160 cm in height. This high impact three-dimensional structure has then been passed over to British artist Stuart Semple for interpretation.” Upon its presentation in Miami, the Duck will then begin a tour of Moncler’s retail stores, before eventually the proceeds of the sale will be given, in full, to Child Priority Foundation, when its auctioned off in February 09. Art Basel is seeing the likes of many highly priced pieces of art work that are having a tough time being moved. Hence the sale sign earlier today reading ‘ Five pieces of artwork for $12′000′. Well art lovers can still enjoy their Art Basel experience with the more affordable souveniers such as these beach towels designed by artists Raymond Pettibon and Ed Ruscha. You may remember we told you about the older ones created by artists such as Jeff Koons and Elizabeth Peyton some time back. Priced at $50 these towels have been the thing to have poolside at this years Art Basel, and for all of those not at the art market you can order yours online at Works On Whatever. David Stoupakis “These Predicaments” at Corey Helford Gallery

Corey Helford Gallery is proud to present “These Predicaments”, a solo exhibition of new works by pop surrealist David Stoupakis. For his second solo exhibition at the Gallery, Stoupakis parlays his talent for the supernatural and macabre into dramatic narratives that reveal symbolic turning points and unexpected dilemmas. If you’re anything like me and unfortunate enough not to make Art Basel this week, you’ll be playing close attention to the broad internet coverage of the event. We’re hoping to have some cool coverage over the next few days, but as it stands and not unexpected the coverage from Supertouch has been great. Korean Designer Juun J has worked with Reebok to produce a pair of Patent Leather/Mesh Classic Hi Top Sneakers. The designer, who has played such a big part in defining the new look of Korean fashion, which in turn has over recent years become a leader in conceptual and influential fashion design, has taken a Korean fashion aesthetic to a classic sneaker. We have been working on this special labor of love for the last couple of months and all that time and effort has now manifested itself in the form of the first art exhibition curated by us here at SlamxHype. We have assembled a great cast of talent consisting of current bloggers on our site and people that we feature on a regular basis. Jeff McMillan, Michael Leon, Steven Daily, Anthony Lister, Kevin Lyons, Butcher Block, Misery, Andrew Pommier, Robert Abeyta Jr., Jon Dragonette, and Ekundayo have all created original art work especially for this group show and with the help of Nike Sportswear, BLENDS, Oakley, and Span of Sunset, we are able to present it to you. Featuring bomber jackets, leggings and bodysuits, the debut collection is clearly designed by none other than M.I.A featuring her signature bold colors and graphic prints. This collection is limited edition and can be seen in her new video “Real Pirates of the Caribbean.” The video features a toe-headed Okley Leslie, who models the pieces from the collection that can be found on the singer’s website and purchased from Karmaloop.
