Top Shotta Brock Out VOL.56

Posted by The Other Club on May 13, 2008 6:33 PM | Email

Continuing the serialisation of Toby Etheridge's Top Shotta Brock out mixtapes. This time Vol. 56. 2002 again, a banging year for bashment. GET IT!

PRETTY PLEASE (L/O/Y)
A short while after the massive LOY (Lords Of Yard)
rhythm was released come two more rhythms from the
same label at the same time - both immense.  TOK hot
and Shabba kills it...

Notch-Panty pudding pie

TOK-John Pop

Ricky Rudie-Explode

Mr easy-How Much more

Shabba Ranks-Pretty please

GIRLS BUSINESS (L/O/Y)
The second.  A bit faster but no less heavy with an
rough, rolling bassline for the chorus.  Notch galore!

Shabba Ranks-Girls business

Notch-Sell yu self cheap

Ricky Rudie & Notch-No Hollywood

COME HERE (ANNEX)
This is the first batch of Come Heres.  The rhythm is
typical of Annex - hard and heavy but with nice
occasional breakdowns.  Capleton brings some fire and
lays down a few rules...  Anthony B gets a slightly
tweaked production and Merciless rides the title cut.

Capleton-Turn it up

Anthony B-Up deh

Sizzla-Grabon

Lexxus-Mi body

Merciless-Come here

POUN-A-HERB (JAH DOG)
Small label, big sound.  Merciless on two strong cuts.
Capleton in another angry mood - his only option is
fire!

Merciless-Metro

Lexxus-Pressure me

Frisco Kid-Hide again

Turbulence-Survival

Capleton-Ready fi bun dem

Merciless-Craving for flesh

X-5 (RATTLER)
The second batch of X-5s.  Brutal sound - cutting edge
for the time - the evolution of the sound started by
the Jammys boys and Ward 21.  Lady Saw is great and
Bounty's a natural on this kind of riddim.

Anthony Cruz-Go go go

Gabriel-Rolling by

Roundhead-Torture

Galaxy P-Future

Harry Toddler-Stiff tongue

Mr Phang, Danny English & Tuff Melody-Hot girl

Ward 21-Lah lah

Lady Saw-Baddest girl

Bounty Killer-Just dead

STAYING ALIVE (BUTLER BROTHERS)
One off label with a couple of early(ish) Vybz cuts.
Strong (singing) Elephant and it's a Scare Dem
selection with Nitty followed by Bounty's take on the
Bee Gees.

Vybz Kartel-Money over war

Elephant Man & Vybz Kartel-Fish & Chicken

Nitty Kutchie-Thugs

Bounty Killer-Staying Alive

PUNAANY (JAMMYS)
Great one-away Bounty protesting some punishment he'd
received for swearing on stage.

Bounty Killer- Community service

BATTERY (JAM II)
This is the third and final batch of this incredible
rhythm.  Nice, laid back Roundhead but it's the
x-rated Lady Saw that stands out.

Assassin-Shotta from birth

Roundhead-Chilling

Lady Saw-Kiss me r@!!
