Jeanne Moreau is credited by MANY for helping to kick START The French New Wave that REVOLUTIONIZED Cinema world-wide.
From her acclaimed performance in Francois Truffaut's Jules et Jim {1962} , as well as Goddard's A Woman Is A Woman, & Fassbinder's Querelle - have crowned her The GREATEST ACTRESS of her GENERATION {according to Orson Wells} ! ! !
This film EVA or EVE is AMAZING ! Moreau listens to Billie Holiday non-stop while driving this Welsh writer absolutely NUTZ !
It's SOOOO GOOD ~ that I bought the DVD to watch it a million times ! The package description is far better than what I can muster ...
This film EVA is a lost CLASSIC ! Having just returned from a romantic get away in Venice, Italy with my girlfriend ... I can tell you THIS is the ultimate film set in Venice ~ in a TIE with DEATH IN VENICE {Donald Sutherland} !
Can I also suggest LIFT TO THE SCAFFOLD ??? It is the 1st film by Louis Malle & features an EXCELLENT MILES DAVIS score !
I had the GREAT & rare pleasure to sit next to Jeanne Moreau at a dinner party for Brit Producers Merchant & Ivory many years ago at The Chateau Marmont . JM was hella COOL ! We had a great time & I HAD to humble myself by being a TRUE FAN & asking her to autograph my Miles Davis CD score . JM was a Classic DIVA; signed it & turned on her heels - handing me my autograph over her shoulder ... as she walked away into the Hollywood night ! BUY the soundtrack ... Miles at his BEST !
RENT BOTH !
Here is my girlfriend & I in Venice a little over a week ago ... MORE Italy pix tomorrow { including SLAMJAM show} ...
