You ever been a part of history? You might think so but when what you did is just a blip on the radar... it doesn't really count. Now imagine the opportunity to do the right thing. Imagine the opportunity was there for you to connect 2 parties that are forever connected to each other, but never made it official.
Enter Ghostface Killah and Clarks.
Ghostface did for Clarks what Grand Puba did for Tommy Hilfiger, introduced it to a generation of hip-hop fans that (if didn't live in NYC) weren't hip to them. Ghost has always named dropped the shoe and even featured it on his Iron Man album cover and Apollo Kids music video. His passion for the shoe is evident in his nick name, "The Wally Champ".
In the past, Ghostface made attempts to partner with the company before it was normal for companies to collaborate with artists. Clarks, being a conservative family owned company from England, didn't really want to get involved with something like that at the time. Understandably very protective of the shoe and public perception of the brand.
(at the Clarks offices holding a Concepts special order Futura Wallabee in a size 15 for the Celtics' Kevin Garnett... anything for our clientele!)
So when the bearded Butcher walked up in Clarks and was kicking his hip-hop, Ghostface, I've been "dyeing my Wallys ever since" talk, I wasn't expecting much but I was surprised when they didn't call security. They were actually pleasant and showed me their vast collection of Wallabees (1 offs included) and listened to why I felt Ghostface, The Wu Tang Clan and hip-hop contributed to the popularity of the Wallabee.
Back to "history being made" thing.... I can't say exactly what's poppin but.... shit... I will leave it at that.
The Wu was at Harvard yesterday for a performance and we met with Tony Starks to discuss some things. The show was dope and was the closest I have ever been to a college education.
Remember kids: "Stapleton where the ambulance don't come!!!"
