Checked out Deadly Dragon Sound this Monday and like always it was a tremendous night of amazing sounds. Tony Screw and Downbeat soundsystem held it down like always!
Mighty Crown was in the area......They ran the dance hall hard during there set
They had there man with them who's name I didnt catch come thru...He droped down hard on some ill rythms in Japenese non the less
It was getting late, I had ingested a large amount of canabis and it was hot....My energy was waning but alas my hero came thru! Johnny Osbourne!
Johnny Osbourne is 70 plus and he still sounds like an angel! Ice Cream Love was one of my all time favorite songs.......Lovers rock is my ish all day long! Peep out who's playing the backround...... Major Mackrel and Sadiki! Major Mackrel getting craze below.
Sadiki came down nice....Kid got a sweet voice and is a Deadly Dragon regular
Teflon came down hard on the DJ tip....and he kept giving shoutouts to the one and only
Those shoutouts were getting me very itchy.......and then right in front of me I was ................SHABBA RANKS getting his groove on if you don't know about Shabba and his catalog go get a late pass homey....
He quickly got on the mic and started dropping hit after hit including Ting a ling a ling, Wicked ina bed, Kill Moma Man, and of couse Piney Piney his cover of Johnny Osbournes amazing Whiney Whiney. While he was at it he also did a song called Dem Bow one of the all time dancehlall crowd rockers. The Rythm for that song became the blueprint for all Reggaeton........ When he did Whiney Whiney It was a tribute of sorts to Johnny Osbourne from the Don Shabba Ranks
Honestly it does not get better than this.......Shabba Ranks is the Big Daddy Kane, KrsOne, and Rakim all rolled up in one of Dancehall. He had the most amazing string of hits in the late 80's early 90's rivaled by nobody. He ruled the area and helped bring Dancehall to the masses.
Ok now what could be better than this you ask? Watching a mean session jumpoff that included Shabba, Teflon, Sammy Dread , Sadiki, and Major Mackel all held down by Jeremy and Tony Screw.....Man this is the realest thing in all of NYC musically. I almost feel like I shouldn't tell people about it and make it more crowded than it already is! This is real roots and culture and the closest thing to a Jamaican style dancehall party in all of NYC sans the danger of a Brooklyn or Kingston dancehall party. This was one for the record books!
Sammy Dread comes down!
An amazing night! Thanks to the Deadly Dragon Sound for putting this together! Jeremey, J and Queen Majesty really out did themselves this time with Johnny Osbourne, Major Mackrel, Sadiki, Simon Dread,Teflon and of course my man SHABBA RANKS. One last shot of me man fanning out with my favorite SHABBA RANKS!
Yeah I was a little high maybe kinda totally.......But whatevers it was 445 when they wrapped it up and after 5 straight hours in the dance I was done! Once again thanks to Deadly Dragon Sound we need more dancehall culture in the world and in NYC! DEADLY DRAGON SOUND NICENESS EVERY TIME!
