Biography

Born in the bay area in 1970 and raised in the Lower East Side of Manhattan Mr. Ross has produced records for the likes of Brand Nubians, 3rd Bass, Grand Puba, ODB, Everlast, and Santana whom he earned a Grammy for in 2000. Ross has scored films and national add campaigns besides being one of the architects of the so called golden age of hiphop where he was the A+R person behind Pete Rock and C.l. Smooth, De La Soul, ODB, KMD, Del Tha Funke Homosapien and Busta Rhymes! Currently Mr.Ross is a vice president at SRC records, is a songwriter for EMI music, works for the newly revived LOUD.com as creative director and does consulting work for various corporate entities as well as writing for Mass Appeal magazine. When he isn't drinking beer or checking out art he can be found banging out beats or digging for records.

BOOGIE

Boogie is an amazing photographer from Belgrade Serbia who currently lives in Brooklyn New York. You may have seen his book "It's All Good" an amazing and distrubing book of picutres he took in Brooklyn of gang members and junkies that PowerHouse books published last year. Boogie is a serious thinker, a good drinker and lately one of my favorite people to build with as our conversations are full of insight and cultural exchange. Beyond all that he is an amazing artist. He sent me these pics today and I thought it would be a great way to start off my blog and set the tone for it on the new Slam.  I want to show art and culture not sneakers and hoodies as I hope to turn some people on to great work and possibly inspire a few people along the way.

I have no interest in bigging myself or any imaginary movements up thats not what I'm about. I have a long standing place in the artistic community in NYC and don't see the point of shamelessly pluggin my own stuff as an ends to a means or some how exploit scenes in hopes of catching a corporate check of sorts. I know what my tangible contributions are to downtown New Yorks culture and beyond. I always thought that the experience and journey to that tangible result were the prize in and off itself not in the posturing and plugging of my personal agenda hence I rarley post pics of myself and tend to try to shine light on artists that I consider valid and of import like Boogie. That said I dont feel the need to post every article I write for Mass Appeal or shamelessly plug my own endeavors. Personally I feel like thats transparent and questionable but then again I'm a purist of sorts.

Food for thought and enjoy Boogies pics!
