Jamie Reid Collaborates with Comme des Garcons at Dover Street Market

Posted on 13 May 2008

Comme des Garcons has collaborated with early Punk artist and original Sex Pistols artsit, Jamie Reid for their Fall 2008 Homme Plus collection. In addition Jamie is preparing an installation and window for Dover Street Market when the store reopens for Tachiagari in late July. Reid’s work has moved on considerably since the late 70’s come early 80’s. If his most recognised work is considered to be masculine in its graphics, his more recent work takes on a feminine aspect that also draws on his interest in pagan culture, in particular, Druidism. Jamie Reid’s unique vision articulates and gives form to some of the key issues of our times. He responds to the ever-increasing attacks on our civil liberties and shared common spaces with passionate anger and savage humour, and shows us ways in which we might re-organise our political and spiritual resources. This is the role of the shaman and Reid’s art acts like a lightning rod, returning us to the earth so that we might share the work of healing. This has all the ingrediants of an exciting release at Dover Street Market so look forward for the chillier months to come back around.
