I must admit that anyone who has studied art, especially art in our post post-modern world, is confronted with a confused puzzling assortment of relativity, subjectivity, and down right zany buffoonery. So entrench is the state of affairs in the art world, particularly in regards to fine art , that to even breath a sigh of dissent will hurl you into an onslaught of ridicule, criticism or polite dismissal. Therefore, it goes without saying that few individuals have the wherewithal to stand in defiance of the artistic intelligentsia and speak liberally of what exactly is taken place in the world of art. One of these rare individuals, Tim Biskup, unapologetic points the finger of defiance in his recent book “The Artist In You”, which will undoubtedly be a read that will raise quite a stir. In his own words, Tim Biskup recounts the state of the art world as a place filled with, “Weak Fuckers. [who] can all get in [a] circle and talk about how art is dead and in need of re-contextualization, but it is your art that is dead.” Again, Tim Biskup exclaims that the modern art world is teaming with individuals who, can't be like us and you don't want to do what it takes to get to that point because you are so full of pain, evil, denial, mountains of bullshit, miles of rocky path and insurmountable passages. When the brace return they are battered and strong.” Strong words indeed and you can get a complete serving of this powerful rhetoric on May 1th in New York at Johnathan Levine Gallery, where he'll give a full discourse on his book. If your not going to be in the New York area May 17th, you can always go to your local book store or amazon.com to pick up the book.
