Converse X Dondi White

Converse and Bodgea present "Archeology Rewards". A collection of art work by the late "Style Master General" Dondi White in celebration of his life and the influence on Converse (PRODUCT) RED.

Michael White (Artist #1) Michael x Dondi White Michael White's homage to his late brother Dondi White, serves as the first of 100 among Converse 1HUND(RED) Artist designs. Dondi White, born Donald J. White (1961-1998), was an artist who is recognized as having set the stylistic standard that influenced a generation of graffiti writers. Often using New York's Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) trains as his canvas, Dondi's pieces created between 1977 to 1982 are highlighted as some of the most influential works in graffiti culture. Dondi White was one of the first graffiti artists to have a one-man show in the Netherlands and Germany and his work is collected by several European museums. In 1984, he began working mainly with blueprints to create collages combining exacting pencil and ink drawings with graffiti. The result was a series of highly intricate pieces, each of which took months to complete.

After a long illness, White died on October 2, 1998 from complications from AIDS. In April 2003, the Dondi White Foundation was created to raise funds to support educational programs on HIV/AIDS prevention and services aimed to improve the lives of those affected by AIDS. For Converse 1HUND(RED) Artists, Michael and the White family provided images and sketches from Dondi White's personal journal to create a Pro Leather oxford shoe that features black suede detailing and a classic b-boy image outline in suede on
the tongue. "B. Boys and Beyond" is etched on the mid sole and unique graffiti embroidery graces the shoe's outsole. The clear sole will feature a unique blueprint collage Dondi created and his classic "Tradition" piece will be placed in the insole.

The Michael White x Dondi White 1HUND(RED) Artist collaboration shoe will be available in December 2007 at Bodega, 6 Clearway St. Boston, MA 02115. MSRP $90 with 10% of the net wholesale price of this shoe going to The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Geneva, Switzerland).
